Chicago Blackhawks: Five greatest players in franchise history
Stan Mikita
The Chicago Blackhawks, as previously mentioned, are an old team. When discussing any old team’s best players of all time some old guys are going to come up. The late Stan Mikita is one of the greatest players to ever have played for the Chicago Blackhawks. He was an incredible playmaker and knew how to create offense.
In 1396 games, Mikita had 541 goals and 926 assists for 1497 points. He was elected into the Pro Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983. He was an all-star eight times and was a Stanley Cup Champion in 1961. He won the Hart Trophy as the MVP of the league twice! He led the entire NHL in scoring to win the Art Ross trophy four times. He also won the Lady Byng Trophy twice for good measure. All of these accomplishments are so incredible and it is easy to see why he is one of the five best players in team history.
Mikita retired after 22 seasons that were all with the Chicago Blackhawks. He is still to this day their all-time leading scorer. There is one player who might be able to eclipse that point total, but it is safe for at least a few more years. Mikita was a highly penalized player early on in his career, but he made a conscious effort to change that stat and it led to those multiple Lady Bing Trophies. Mikita was an elite player, and it is nice to see him recognized as such even after he has left us.
