Special Teams

Two of these positions should be locked and loaded for this year, but one of them is far from set in stone.

Kicker: Eddy Pineiro

Punter: Pat O’Donnell

Long Snapper: Patrick Scales

The kicker position, I’ll admit, is a pure guess. The Bears traded for Pineiro, so they must have known something during that process. Instead of going out and signing an undrafted free agent like Cole Tracy or bringing in another free agent veteran, they opted to deal for Pineiro.

I like what he did at Florida and I think if he is able to have a strong camp, his confidence will only surge. Pineiro has the leg and is a capable kicker. But, if he fails to take advantage of the opportunity, then it’ll be Elliot Fry who takes the job.

Of course, neither of them could end up the Bears’ kicker if another veteran is cut from their team. Names like Mason Crosby, Chris Boswell among others could be let go. We’ll have to keep an eye out for those guys as camp gets rolling even more.
