Chicago Bears should consider trading Javon Wims to Giants

Javon Wims’ role with the Chicago Bears is a bit unclear. The team should consider trading him to the New York Giants, who are hurting for receiver depth.
After being drafted in the 7th round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Javon Wims was hoping he’d be the fourth wide receiver for the Chicago Bears in his sophomore season. However, that notion was muddied when the team selected Riley Ridley out of Georgia in 4th round of this years’ draft.
The Bears wide receiver corps was re-stocked last offseason with the free agent signings of Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel and Anthony Miller was drafted in the 2nd round. With the departure of Josh Bellamy via free agency, it was supposed to be Wims’ turn.
Wims caught all four of his receptions in the regular season finale in Minnesota. Ridley is nursing a hamstring injury early-on in training camp but he is expected to replace Bellamy’s role leaving Wims’ playing time limited to just special teams.
This is why the Bears should consider trading him to the New York Giants who hurting for wide receivers all of a sudden. Odell Beckham Jr. was traded in the offseason but the team has already lost Corey Coleman to a torn ACL and Golden Tate to a 4-game suspension. Add to this that Sterling Shepard has a thumb injury, but should be able to practice before the end of training camp.
Javon Wims would likely net the Bears a mid-round pick but it would be wise for both parties, giving Wims a chance to get regular playing time while adding another draft pick. Right now the Bears have two second-round picks, a fifth, sixth, seventh, and the Jordan Howard pick that is a sixth-round pick with the potential to become a fifth.
If the Bears could get themselves a fourth-round pick for Wims, it would be a major win for the 2020 draft. Missing out on talent in the third and fourth rounds is not ideal, especially for a team that is soon going to have to make some interesting decisions due to salary cap restrictions.
