One of the biggest topics of concern lately for the Cubs has been the issue with the bullpen. The team already optioned reliever Carl Edwards Jr. a couple of days ago, as he has simply not returned to who the Cubs thought he could be.

Then, Monday night, the inconsistencies of Pedro Strop showed up again when he blew a multi-run lead against the San Francisco Giants. The Cubs ended up close to tying the game in the top of the ninth, but came up short and the blame went squarely on Strop’s shoulders.

For these reasons, the Cubs not only have to figure out the order of their bullpen but also potentially add another arm to the group. Shane Greene has been one of the names the Cubs are interested in, per David Kaplan of NBC Sports Chicago.

Greene is sporting an ERA of 1.25 and a WHIP of 0.86 on the year, both which are very strong numbers. He has struck out 40 batters in 36.0 innings while walking 11, which is also a respectable ratio.

Adding Greene would immediately give the Cubs another arm to help spread out the usage of Steve Cishek. Obviously, the team added Craig Kimbrel already. But, if this club is to make a run, they’ll need more help. Banking on the return of Brandon Morrow is like grasping at straws at this point, too.

Getting Greene would be a phenomenal move by Theo.
