Chicago Bears: 5 biggest questions heading into training camp
By Ryan Heckman
5. How will Nagy handle preseason playing time?
Last year, this was one of the most heated debates between Bears fans in recent memory. It was the second-to-last preseason game and everybody anticipated that this was the one where they’d see the starters play for a good chunk of the game.
Typically, that’s how it goes. Then, in the final preseason game, every important player rests.
Nagy surprised us all when he announced he was going to sit his starters for the game against the Kansas City Chiefs, stating that they had all gotten plenty of reps in practice.
It was somewhat head-scratching at first, I’ll be honest. You had a brand-new offense being installed with tons of new players, and you want to rest them in what should be their biggest preseason game?
A year later, I’m wondering if Nagy takes the same approach. It would make sense for him to do so, especially considering he’s returning most of his guys from last year. I would anticipate the first preseason game featuring the starters for two series, followed by about a quarter in the second game.
But, the third game? We’ll have to wait and see where Nagy’s head is at. I know I’ll be very, very curious to hear his pregame presser going into that game against the Indianapolis Colts on August 24th.
