Chicago Cubs: 5 trade packages that make the most sense
By Ryan Sikes
The MLB trade deadline is under two weeks away and the Chicago Cubs should be aggressive. Here are the five trade packages that make the most sense.
As we head full steam into the MLB trade deadline, the Chicago Cubs are still in first place and have won 6-of-7 games after the All-Star break heading into Saturday’s game against the Padres. Joe Maddon recently stated in a post-game interview that he likes what he has seen from his guys lately but knows there is another level yet to be reached.
The team has already signed for the services of free agent closer Craig Kimbrel. The Cubs could stand to still add a left-handed reliever for the home stretch. If you recall, there is no waiver wire this year, so July 31 is it for all teams.
Robel Garcia has been called up and has done well thus far. I expect him to struggle at some point so the Cubs should still be on the lookout for a second baseman if one is available for the right price. As for the outfield, Albert Almora (and possibly Kyle Schwarber) are looking more and more like they could be on the move.
Ian Happ is starting to figure out his timing issues in Triple-A and is batting is batting 0.282 with 3 home runs and 7 RBI’s in his last 10 games. I would expect that he gets the call up to the big leagues shortly. That being said, here are the team needs at the trade deadline:
- Left-handed reliever
- Middle infield help
- Veteran outfield bat
If you recall, I put together several trade package pieces for your reading enjoyment.
Kansas City Royals
Baltimore Orioles
Detroit Tigers
Seattle Mariners
San Francisco Giants
Let’s look at the five from these pieces that make the most sense.
