Chicago Bears: 3 reasons to be excited about training camp
The D
Vic Fangio is now the head man in Denver and will learn what it’s like to run a training camp as the man in charge, as he does so for the first time this year. Fangio was beloved and respected by the players, and brought a certain quiet confidence to the defense.
His replacement, Chuck Pagano, could not be more different — both in personality and coaching philosophy. Pagano is talkative and boisterous, while Fangio was quiet and reserved. Whereas Fangio played to not give up the big play, Pagano plays to make the big play.
Training camp will be the first chance fans will have to see just how he intends to deploy the myriad defensive weapons he has at his disposal. Just how creative will he get using guys like Khalil Mack and Leonard Floyd off the edge? How will he take advantage of the athleticism of Roquan Smith or the incredible playmaking abilities of Eddie Jackson?
The possibilities are literally endless. And fans will get a glimpse of some of them. They’ll also see an overall more aggressive defense, that is inclined to take more chances than under Fangio. This new style should get fans excited, and they’ll get a sneak peek in a little over a week.
