Chicago Bulls: The case of a Kris Dunn trade conundrum
By Ryan Heckman
Who wants him?
Once again, the short answer would be: Nobody.
However, look a little deeper at the aftermath of this year’s free agency real quick.
Kemba Walker left the Charlotte Hornets to join the Boston Celtics.
Kyrie Irving left those same Celtics to join the Brooklyn Nets.
D’Angelo Russell left those same Nets to join the Golden State Warriors.
The Oklahoma City Thunder lost Russell Westbrook in exchange for Chris Paul and a boat load of draft picks. However, the Thunder may not be done just yet. Lots of people think Oklahoma City would try and deal Paul to a destination like the Miami Heat.
If the Thunder do that, they’re left with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as their starter and Dennis Schroder as their backup point guard, who is also on the tail end of a terrible contract. Dunn could easily be the third guy in line and give them decent minutes in the case of injury.
As we’ve established, the Bulls just don’t have a need for another point guard. So, maybe the Thunder would be willing partners. They have already made some big trades this offseason. Why not help out the Bulls by taking this guy off their hands?
