3. Why do the Bears Super Bowl hopes hinge on Mitchell Trubisky?

Last year, to critics, the Bears were mostly a defensive-led squad due to the presence of Khalil Mack. While playmakers on offense were busy getting adjusted, the defense led the way for the first few weeks of the season.

Perhaps the person who benefitted from an elite defense a year ago was Mitchell Trubisky. However now, Trubisky has had a year to learn and play within Matt Nagy’s offense meaning he’s expected to take a big step forward. In other words, Trubisky is running out of excuses.

If Trubisky takes the big step forward that many people are expecting him to take, then the Bears will ultimately be Super Bowl contenders. However, if he regresses, then the Bears Super Bowl chances take a big hit.

Towards the end of last season, Trubisky became fluent when it came to reading progressions. He was able to identify his primary and secondary reads, while also proving that as time went on, he understood more and more of the offense.

The Bears know that if they want to represent the NFC in Miami next February, then everything lies on what Trubisky can and cannot do. The rest of the NFL has gotten a chance to see what Trubisky looks like in the Bears offense, which means if Trubisky is a true franchise quarterback for the Bears, then he’ll take his game to the next level.
