Chicago Bears: 10 players facing important training camp
By Ryan Heckman
Kevin Toliver
The secondary is always a group of players which features surprises. On every team, every year, there are changes. There is turnover — pun intended. Kevin Toliver is a perfect example of just that, as he came to the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and ended up making the team.
But, again, the Bears feature some changes in the secondary this year. Bryce Callahan is gone, and Buster Skrine is in. Pace chose to use two of his five draft choices on the secondary, bringing in former Kansas State corner Duke Shelley as well as Stephen Denmark out of Valdosta State.
Toliver’s perseverance was on display over the course of training camp in 2018. He came up with some big-time turnovers early in the first few practices last year, which gave him a leg up on his competition. Now, he’ll have to once again prove he belongs on this roster.
The Bears are entrusting the defense to Chuck Pagano, who is known as a defensive back guru. If Toliver can come out and impress Pagano while soaking in everything he can, he’ll stay on the team. But, there are going to be a lot of guys fighting for those backup spots.
