The Chicago White Sox are just five games under .500, but given the nature of the American League, it seems as if the White Sox will once again be selling. Here are three big deals with just weeks before the trade deadline.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: The Chicago White Sox will be sellers during this year’s trade deadline.

Honestly, it isn’t surprising. The White Sox are almost ten games out of the playoffs, and while a playoff push wouldn’t be impossible, it is surely improbable, and the White Sox should set their focuses towards next season, when their window will open up.

In the mean time, the White Sox have a few tradeable pieces that could entice other teams to deal major league-ready talent to the South Side. Before we get into particular trades, let me lay out a few big points.

  • Jose Abreu will not be traded. From what I have heard, the White Sox fully intend to extend Abreu, who is a free agent this winter. Abreu recently was named to his third All-Star team and is on pace for his best power-hitting season of his career.
  • James McCann also will not be traded, To my understanding, extending McCann is a priotity of the White Sox this offseason, therefore they will not be trading their All-Star catcher.
  • If the White Sox buy, which they probably won’t, it’ll be at a large capacity. No rentals deals, only deals for players with multiple years of control.

Now that we’ve gotten all of that out of the way, let’s get down to business. General Manager Rick Hahn has a track record of making his primary deals in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline, so something can happen at any time (no, I’m not hinting at anything).

Without further instruction, here are three pre-deadline deals for the South Siders to set themselves up nicely for next season.
