Chicago Bears: 3 surprise players who could make roster
Chuck Harris
Last on our list is outside linebacker Chuck Harris, another undrafted free agent out of the University of Buffalo. Harris was one of the players defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano identified as someone who impressed in minicamp.
One of the reasons he could steal a roster spot is because the Bears also lack quality depth at the outside linebacker position. While the bookends of Khalil Mack and Leonard Floyd are stalwarts, after that it gets a little questionable.
Aaron Lynch was effective last year but was limited towards the end of the season due to injuries. He’s also a free agent after this season. Beyond that, you’re looking at Kylie Fitts, Isaiah Irving, or Josh Woods as the remaining options, along with fellow undrafted free agent Mathieu Betts.
Harris, however, has a relentless motor and has flashed enough skill and potential in college to warrant a long, hard look as a depth option with the potential to eventually take over as the primary backup on the edge.
He’s still a bit raw as a prospect but has the skill set to be a major factor with the right coaching, and the Bears have just that.
Bottom Line
At the end of the day, it is still difficult for undrafted free agents to break training camp on a roster. But if you’re looking for a few players who based on talent and circumstances could accomplish that, then these are your guys.
