The Chicago White Sox had a glimpse of the future in game one of their double-header vs the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.

The Chicago White Sox had an outstanding game in game one of their double-header on Wednesday. They had all of the hype around one of their most recent promotions from AAA Charlotte and got the exact result they wanted from it.

Dylan Cease was called up from the minors and it was a long time coming. We knew he would make his Major League debut sometime this summer, it was just a matter of when. The White Sox had a well calculated plan on when that day would be and it was the last non Cubs home series before the all-star break, which was an anticipated move by some.

The Detroit Tigers are having a down year and in the middle of a rebuild. They were the perfect situation for Cease and he executed. He clearly had the jitters in the first inning and it costed him some of his control. It didn’t cost him any velocity, because he was already the owner of the fastest pitch thrown by a White Sox pitcher in 2019 in the first inning. He walked some guys and one lousy base hit led to the Tigers taking a 2-0 lead.

The White Sox were then able to get him a comfortable lead and he settled in nicely. He had a final stat line of 5.0 IP, 4 hits, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, and 6 K’s. Those are decent numbers for a guy just getting his feet wet in the best baseball league in the world. He threw 101 pitches and had 61 strikes and 40 balls. A very solid outing for him.

The White Sox acquired Cease from the Chicago Cubs in 2017 along with Eloy Jimenez in exchange for Jose Quintana. Eloy also had a really good game for the White Sox in this one. He went 1 for 2 with two runs scored. It was an awesome game for both him and Cease, so the White Sox can thank the Cubs for helping with today’s win.

This is the type of game that represents the future. Everyone hopes that both Cease and Jimenez along with others, contribute to this team’s success for a long time. It was a character win and we hope to see many more of these led by the young guys.
