The Chicago White Sox have announced that another top prospect will be called up, this time being top pitching prospect Dylan Cease.

Chicago White Sox fans, the wait is over.

The White Sox announced on Sunday morning that Dylan Cease, the club’s top pitching prospect, will be called up to make his major league debut.

The debut will come during game one of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.

I was told around 7 p.m. last night that Cease would be called up, but I was not allowed to report it. I was also told two weeks before the season that Cease would be called up during the “last non-Cubs home series, likely in the middle of the week”, so this goes in tune with what I was told.

What this means is that the White Sox had a plan for Cease. Despite his recent struggles, the White Sox have had a date in mind for Cease to be recalled. This was brought to fruition on Sunday.

Cease is the White Sox top pitching prospect. He was acquired from the Chicago Cubs in the 2017 Jose Quintana trade. Cease was the White Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Year last season, leading the system in ERA and strikeouts.

Cease has had the fastest track to the big leagues out of all of the White Sox pitching prospects, as he spent just half of a season in Triple-A, opposed to other pitchers that were not called up until August or later.

To my knowledge, Cease is here to stay and will be the starter in the White Sox’s first game of the second half in Kansas City. The start allows Cease to stay under a controlled innings limit while having an entire half in the major leagues.

The timing of Cease’s call-up allows the White Sox to introduce him in the major leagues in the second half of 2019 before making a run for the playoffs in 2020. The White Sox should be fully healthy by then, so giving Cease experience now will set him up well for a big 2020 season.

Cease’s debut will be highly-anticipated, as the White Sox and their fans have waited almost two years for this moment. Cease will be one of the league’s best pitchers for a long time and we’ll get to see him in action for the first time on Wednesday.
