The Chicago White Sox had an annoying series against the Boston Red Sox but avoided the sweep in the last game of the series.

The Chicago White Sox defeated their old ace Chris Sale and his Boston Red Sox in the final game of their series at Fenway Park. It was a tough series for the White Sox because some bad luck late in games combined with a potent Red Sox lineup they lost the first two games.

The Red Sox escaped Lucas Giolito in game one by getting three runs on the board against him and taking the White Sox bullpen tied into the bottom of the ninth, where the Red Sox walked it off after making a comeback. The White Sox were at least in the game but had a rare instance where they blew a late-inning lead.

In the second game, the White Sox also led 3-1 but their lead was vanquished after a that when the Red Sox scored five unanswered to win the game 6-3. It was a game that the White Sox blew a lead again but it was only the third inning when that happened. This game can be chalked up as a game that saw the Red Sox being a better team.

This game was tough because Tim Anderson went down with an apparent ankle injury and it appeared to be bad for him and the White Sox. X-rays were negative so the diagnosis as of now is an ankle sprain and the White Sox appeared to have dodged a bullet. Tim has been the White Sox best player this season so losing him for a short amount of time is bad but at least it appears it isn’t going to be too serious.

In game three the game went back and forth all game. The White Sox led for most of it but the Red Sox kept clawing back little by little until Xander Boegarts hit a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning to put his team ahead by one. It appeared the White Sox were going to be swept until Jose Abreu hit a two-run blast over the Green Monster to give the White Sox a permanent lead in the 9th inning.

They lost Yoan Moncada to injury in the third game and he is day to day with a knee contusion. Timmy and Yoan have been two of the three best players for this team this year so we hope they come back soon. Jose Abreu stepped up big time in their absence and he may need to be just as good in the coming series.

The schedule makers did the White Sox no favors because after an off day on Thursday they come home after a long road trip to take on the Minnesota Twins for three games. We will see Lucas Giolito in this series along with Ivan Nova, but the starter for Friday’s game is to be determined. The Twins can hit bombs for days so the White Sox pitchers need to be ready. It is always a fun challenge when the division leaders come to town. Time to use this big win in Boston to propel them back on track.
