Ish Smith — Unrestricted

What if I told you that NBA journeyman Ish Smith has had two seasons in which he averaged over six assists per game, just like Dunn’s 2018-2019 campaign? I guarantee the first word out of your mouth would be either, “what?” or “really?”

Exactly. Smith has been around for almost a decade now, but over the last few seasons he’s polished his game much more and has become a valuable backup in this league. Heck, he’s even started 120 games in total since the start of the 2015 season.

Prior to that year, Smith had only started a combined 43 games since 2011 while playing for a total of eight — eight — teams. That’s eight teams in five seasons, folks. Typically, that kind of player (one who is constantly either cut or traded) isn’t one you’re looking at adding as a significant backup to your starter.

But, alas, Smith has had himself quite the last couple of years in the NBA. Over the last three seasons with the Detroit Pistons, Smith has averaged nearly double digits in scoring and right around 4.6 assists per game as a reserve.

Smith is one of two players which were mentioned in a recent Bleacher Report piece (h/t Chicago Sun Times) as guys who consistently come up on the Bulls’ radar lately. The next one? Read on.
