Chicago Bears: Current players that aren’t going anywhere
By Ryan Heckman
Outside Linebacker Khalil Mack
This guy needs no introduction. Last fall, the rumors began. Khalil Mack wasn’t going to show up to Oakland Raiders training camp without a new deal, and Jon Gruden, along with his front office, weren’t going to budge.
It happened so fast. One week, the Vegas odds included the Bears and Packers as two top teams to end up with Mack — that seemed like a pipe dream. Then, the deal actually happened.
The rest is history.
Mack immediately turned this top-10 unit into the number one unit in all of football. His presence was like that of a superstar in the NBA. Think LeBron James or Michael Jordan. The rest of the team looks ten times better playing with that caliber of a player, and it’s no exaggeration.
Do you think it was by chance that the Bears ended up with the amount of Pro Bowlers they had last season? Do you think Eddie Jackson and Fuller magically turned into All Pro players?
While those two guys are extremely good at what they do and deserved the All Pro nods, it was Mack’s presence which accelerated the process in their development. It is much easier for the other 10 guys to make plays when one man is wreaking havoc up front.
There is no way — zero chance — Mack ever leaves Chicago. He is going to retire a Bear, no question.
