Chicago Bears: Current players that aren’t going anywhere
By Ryan Heckman
Cornerback Kyle Fuller
Bears fans remember back in 2014, Kyle Fuller burst onto the scene in his second game as a pro. It was a primetime game against the San Francisco 49ers, and Fuller came away with two interceptions off of then-Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
His status as a first-round pick was in question ever since the Bears drafted him, but that night, it seemed to be solidified.
Then, it wasn’t.
After the 2016 season, the majority of fans were even wondering if Fuller would be victim of the cap and end up being cut. Would Fuller make the team heading into the 2017 campaign? It was his contract year — an ever-important season for the former Virginia Tech product.
Fuller went and balled out that season, and followed it up with the Bears re-signing him in the spring of 2018 — Green Bay Packers fans remember that deal well, don’t they?
All he’s done is execute since his job was on the line prior to his contract year. Fuller has become an All Pro. Imagine that — an All Pro, after once having his roster status in question.
The value of a top-tier cornerback is high these days, and the Bears should be willing to keep him around for several years to come. Fuller darn well could end up retiring a Bear after the type of turnaround he’s had. He’s one of the best in the game, period.
