Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars had a really good year in 2018-19. It began with an underwhelming start that led to their owner having some choice words for their superstars but they all got it figured it out and ended up making the playoffs and making noise in those playoffs. They were defeated in double overtime of game seven of their second-round series with the St. Louis Blues. The Blues went on to win the Stanley Cup so you would think that Dallas believes that they are right there. Maybe they were a good draft or a free agent or two away from getting even further.

They didn’t have their best draft of all time outside the first round. They selected Thomas Harley in the first round who should go on to be a really good player. He might even be the second best offensive defenseman in the draft behind Bowen Byram. He has his issues in his own zone, but his offense can really make a difference. He joins an organization that is really good in that department with guys like John Klingberg, Miro Heiskanen, and Esa Lindell.

Based on projections from scouts, they didn’t have the best second day at the draft but they did only have four picks in the entire draft. That often happens with teams as good as Dallas. If Harley becomes a full-time Dallas Star one day that would make this a successful draft for them. However, the grade is based on all of their picks and not just one.
