The Chicago Bulls select…hopefully someone good!

Best Case Scenario: Chicago claims Jarrett Culver: Not a whole lot needs to be said about Jarrett Culver; he’s one of the most balanced players in this year’s class. “Meh” postseason aside, he’ll be able to do things that most rookies aren’t capable of doing like defending and facilitating. The former Red Raider offers positional flexibility. In today’s NBA, more and more players are becoming more and more positionless. Having a do-it-all chess piece like Culver is essential to winning the division, conference, and hopefully championships.

Worst Case Scenario: The team drafts a big man at seven for the third straight year: I actually don’t have a problem with drafting someone like a Jaxson Hayes or Bol Bol this year. But that would be under the circumstance that the Bulls trade down with one of the teams that has multiple picks (Boston or Atlanta). Drafting a big at seven would pretty much be a luxury because he would almost certainly be coming off the bench. In my honest opinion, I think it makes more sense to swing for the fences on Cam Reddish because at least you aren’t playing safe and you aren’t drafting for need.

“Fit” Case Scenario: Coby White is pigeonholed into the starting lineup: Speaking of drafting for need, if Coby White is on the board when the Bulls are picking at seven, it is almost a 100% certainty that he’s their guy. Ideally, GarPax thinks things through and not submit to the promise they allegedly gave him a couple of weeks back. But from a need standpoint, White makes plenty sense, and he’ll be an upgrade over Kris Dunn. Well, hopefully, he is.

Wild Card: Sekou Doumbouya learns “Boylen Ball”: I would feel pretty bad for the 18-year-old if he had to be exposed to Jimbo Boylen and his “interesting” coaching principles. Sekou Doumbouya is one of my favorite players in this draft just because he’s a very unique and projectable player. His six-foot, 11-inch stature to complement his crispy three-point shooting could make him a quality stretch four or five. He will need to improve his rebounding and overall defense among other things, but there’s enough there to work with. And with the hire of assistant coach Chris Fleming from the Brooklyn Nets, the Bulls’ player development should improve over time.
