Chicago White Sox: Series split with the Yankees
The Chicago White Sox had a series split with the Yankees which is something that most would have signed up for before the series started.
The Chicago White Sox got off to a great start in their series with the New York Yankees. They won the first two on Thursday and Friday before losing both weekend games. This was a good measuring stick series for the White Sox because New York is one of the favorites in the American League.
Even with injuries to players like Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton they have been able to maintain their spot amongst the elites in the AL. That is in large part due to having a lineup that throws good hitter after good hitter.
It was evident that this would be a tough series when the Yankees went up 4-0 in the first game, but then the White Sox scored five unanswered and won the game. Then in the next game, they absolutely obliterated every baseball they saw and won the game 10-2. It was an awesome start for Lucas Giolito in that one as well and on the back of him and Eloy Jimenez they had a 2-0 series lead.
But then their luck ran out as the Yankees took both weekend games and made it a series split. The good thing is that when you are in the next step of a rebuild like the White Sox are, you will happily take a 2-2 series split with an elite team like the New York Yankees. This is the last time the White Sox will see the Yankees and that might be a good thing because they are starting to get healthy and that is very bad news for the rest of the American League.
As previously mentioned, Jimenez and Giolito looked like the superstars they are expected to be in this series which is exactly what the Sox need to win baseball games. Another shine of light was the play of Jose Abreu. He went 10-16 in the series with a home run in there and was a major part to this being a split series. Yoan Moncada missed all but the last game with an upper-body injury so hopefully, he can get back to his old self in the upcoming days.
Now, the White Sox have a very daunting upcoming schedule. They have the Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, and the Minnesota Twins as their next four opponents and if you take a look at the MLB standings you will see why this is a less than ideal schedule. They are going to look to play as they did in the first half of this series more than the second half. This series is a perfect example of growing pains, but it also had slight previews of what is to come on the south side.
