8. Edmonton Oilers – Cole Caufield, RW

The Edmonton Oilers do a lot of top ten selecting and not a lot of playoffs in the last 15 years. They have landed guys like Taylor Hall, Connor McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Nail Yakupov with first overall picks. All they have done with those guys is watch McDavid win scoring titles on nonplayoff teams, trade Hall away so he can win a Hart Trophy with another team, and Yakupov isn’t even in the league anymore.

Now they have a  chance to give McDavid a winger he really needs. Cole Caufield is considered by many to be the best pure goal scorer in the NHL. His NHL comparable is Alex DeBrincat because he is a smaller player who just finds ways to score. Getting McDavid a winger like this would go a long way so they can have Leon Draisaitl run his own line and put them all together on the power-play. Caufield could go on to be the steal of the draft.

9. Anaheim Ducks – Trevor Zegras, C

The Anaheim Ducks are in one of the worst spots of any team in the NHL. They are not good at all but they are an expensive roster with lots of aging players. They have Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Kesler, and Corey Perry under contract and none of them are the players they once were. It is going to be a long time before they are as good as we have come to get used to them being. Trevor Zegras would really help them in that quest. He is the type of young center who Getzlaf could help mold into a future number one guy who can lead the way once he is gone.

He was great on a loaded USNDP team and Boston University will help him develop his skills and he will have a chance to play in the World Junior Championships next season as well.  The Ducks would be very wise to add him to the mix and the 9th pick for this guy could look like a steal someday.
