Chicago White Sox: Mixed emotions after Nationals series
The Chicago White Sox didn’t fare well as they would have liked in their 4 games against the Washington Nationals, but there are definitely mixed emotions.
The Chicago White Sox had an interesting home series against the Washington Nationals. This comes after losing both games of a two-game series last week. For some reason, they struggled against the Nationals all around, but this particular two-game set at home left mixed emotions as a fan.
In game one of this home series, the White Sox got demolished. They lost the game 12-1 and there weren’t many good things to talk about. These games are going to happen to a young team but the good part is they have happened so much less frequently this season than in the previous few seasons.
Yoan Moncada had a minor injury in this game as well which is something the White Sox fans absolutely do not want to see, but it appears his removal from the game was mostly precautionary. They kept him out of the second game as well, but it also appears precautionary as he had some upper back stiffness. He will likely not find himself on the injured list which is awesome. The White Sox need Yoan Moncada at full strength and it is better to make sure he is 100 percent.
The White Sox took the second game by a final score of 7-5. It wasn’t easy and an up and down game, but when Welington Castillo hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning that put them ahead for good. It was awesome to see this team come together to get at least one against the Nationals, who are a better baseball team than their 31-36 record suggests. This is a team who might have a big second half if they can fix their bullpen so the White Sox can learn from the bad and expand on the good from this one.
Eloy Jimenez was the star of the game in the second game. He went 2/3 with his first ever home run at Guaranteed Rate Field, another hit to go with it, two RBIs and three runs scored. It has been quite the stretch for Eloy and hopefully, he continues this pace. The kid loves playing baseball and we love watching him play. Adding Eloy to the middle of this lineup is an absolute joy for us White Sox fans.
They are off on Wednesday before beginning a four-game series with the New York Yankees. This Yankee team has dealt with so many injuries and they still manage to have one of the best offenses in Major League Baseball and their first place 41-25 record suggests that. This is going to be an awesome test for the White Sox.
