The Chicago White Sox promoted Nick Madrigal to AA and in his debut, he shined night and impressed everyone. The White Sox are hoping it continues.

On Wednesday, the Chicago White Sox announced a notable transaction within the organization. They promoted second baseman, Nick Madrigal, to AA ball. He has reported to the Birmingham Barrons after a strong start to his pro career in A ball. In 2019 in A, he slashed .272/.346/.377 and had an OPS of .723. He had 52 hits and 27 RBIs with two home runs.

He was taken by the White Sox with the fourth overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft. He played his college baseball at Oregon State where he had a fantastic collegiate career. He was drafted before Yoan Moncada made the transition to third base, so it seemed like a potential trade piece in the future but now it appears that Madrigal is in the future plans of the White Sox. They seem to think he will be their second baseman one day.

He made his AA debut for the Birmingham Barrons on Thursday night. He had a debut to remember for the Barrons. We knew it would be interesting to see how he handles the promotion, and he handled it exactly how you would want to see him handle it.

He hit second in the order behind another White Sox top prospect, Luis Robert. Robert is absolutely crushing his AA stay so far, but he went 0-4 with Madrigal batting in front of him. As for Madrigal, he went 3/4 at the plate with two steals and a run. It is exactly what you would want to see from a guy that can either lead off or bat second. This was a strong first game for Madrigal, and now we wait to see how he will handle this promotion as he gets even deeper into it.

If he keeps it up, he will find himself in AAA before you know it. It might not come this year because the White Sox are taking their time with this rebuild, but you never know. Either way, the White Sox have high hopes for this guy and hopefully, he lives up to his potential.
