Chicago White Sox: Who should make the all-star team?
4. Lucas Giolito
Lucas Giolito is perhaps the biggest surprise amongst all players on the Chicago White Sox so far in 2019. He had a miserable year in 2018. It was looking like he might end up not being the prospect that we thought he was and that maybe he would end up in the bullpen once the likes of Michael Kopech and Dylan Cease were in Chicago full time. Now he looks like he might join them as a three-headed monster that becomes an elite rotation.
Giolito has amazing numbers so far in 2019. He has a 6-1 record, a 2.77 ERA, 59 strikeouts and a 1.058 WHIP. These are a major improvement over his 2018 numbers, which were amongst the worst pitchers in the entire league. His 2019 WAR of 1.8 is already higher than his career WAR of 1.6. This has been a true breakout season for Giolito and it would be so awesome to see him represent the American League.
Not only is he a candidate to make it onto the AL roster, but there is also a chance that if he keeps up this pace that he is currently on, Alex Cora might consider starting him. Cora will manage the team so hopefully, he recognizes what Giolito has done it he does, in fact, make the team.
