The Chicago White Sox have a very good first baseman in Jose Abreu. He has been one of the best first basemen in the American League since he made his major league debut. He has been an all-star and the White Sox best hitter for a long time. The problem is, he really doesn’t have his successor in the organization and he isn’t getting any younger.

That is why Andrew Vaughn will be a great addition to the team vis the 2019 MLB Draft. He is the first baseman for the University of California. He had a very good 2018 and is following it up with an impressive 2019 as well. His 2018 is where he earned the opportunity to be a top overall prospect and have a chance to be taken in the top three.

In 2018 he had a .402 average, had an on-base percentage of .531, a slugging percentage of .819 and had a 1.350 OPSs. He chipped in 23 home runs and 63 RBIs. He truly is one of the best power hitters in the entire draft. He could make an impact on the White Sox right in time for Abreu’s departure.

The White Sox do not have an immediate successor to Jose Abreu whose contract expires at the end of this season. The Sox could offer the 32-year a two or three-year deal, but they should have a backup plan in place in case he wants a larger contract. Andrew Vaughn is a terrific pick for the 3rd overall pick.

The University of California product slashing 0.385/0.539/0.728 in his junior season with 15 home runs and 49 RBI’s. Vaughn also participated in the Cape Cod league year and batted 0.308 with five home runs and 14 RBI’s in just 14 games. He is one of the best hitters in this draft and could potentially be ready in late 2020 or early 2021.
