The Chicago Cubs selected 2B/SS prospect Andy Weber out of Virginia in the fifth round of the 2018 MLB Draft.

The Chicago Cubs added middle infield, Andy Weber out of Virginia in the fifth round last year. He split the remainder of the 2018 season between short season Eugene and the Arizona Fall League, slashing 0.254/0.327/0.338 between the two.

He began the 2019 campaign with Single-A South Bend and has slashed 0.233/0.272/0.353 with one home-run and 18 runs-batted in in just 31 games. Weber has primarily been playing shortstop in the minors but can play both positions.

Bodi Rascon LHP

Body Rascon is another lefty starting pitcher the Cubs could add into the mix. He is from Decatur Texas High School and has also has played both first base and the outfield so he’s extremely versatile. The 6′-5″ 210 high school prospect has excellent size for a pitcher to continue developing.

Scouts like his potential but admit he has some work to do in order to be successful in the big leagues:

"Rascon touched 92 mph with his fastball, mostly sitting in the 89-91 mph range. There’s some work that needs to be done—his mid-70s breaking ball lacked bite and he’ll need more consistency with the landing of his lower half to keep his body in sync and allow him to improve his strike-throwing—but he looks like a potential high-upside arm with a few steps forward. Rascon is committed to Oklahoma State. – via BaseballAmerica"

Is Kris Bryant going to be a member of the Chicago Cubs long term? He has already done everything there is to do as a Major League player in his young career so far. That includes winning the rookie of the year, the MVP of the National League, and the World Series. His contract is up after the 2021 season and could very well explore free agency at that point in time like other superstars around the league like Bryce Harper and Manny Machado. The hope for the Cubs is that it doesn’t happen and he takes more of a Mike Trout type approach and just be loyal to the team that drafted him.

The Cubs, however, need to recognize this possibility and prepare for it as best as they can. They can draft Jared Triolo out of Houston. Triolo would be a good addition to the Cubs someday. If Bryant leaves he could develop into their new guy at the hot corner, and it Bryant stays there might be a spot for him at another position at that time or he could be used in a trade for a positional need. Not only does he play a potential position of need, but he is also a pretty good hitter for the University of Houston.

So far in 2019, he is currently slashing .324/.413/.490. This is great for a junior in college and could be an absolute steal if he fell to the Cubs in the fifth round.
