The Chicago Bears should pounce on Gerald McCoy, now that he has been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Chicago Bears are at the point where they can make certain types of signings to better their team. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers just released Gerald McCoy on Monday Night. He was the third overall pick for the Buccaneers in the 2010 NFL Draft out of the University of Oklahoma.

McCoy was due 13 million dollars this season. The Buccaneers reportedly tried to trade the six-time pro bowler to someone willing to take him on, but they couldn’t find a partner. After failing to find a trade that worked, the two sides parted ways.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported all of this on Monday night, and that left us Bears fans dreaming about what adding a Pro Bowl defensive tackle to this already incredible defense would be like. Schefter also reported that McCoy wants to sign with a contender, and right now we all believe the Chicago Bears are exactly that.

He would come in and be a part of an already stacked defense with the likes of Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks, and Eddie Jackson amongst others. If McCoy was added to this group it could make the best defense in the NFL even better and give them even more depth. This defense is going to lead the team and even though the offense should be better this season, they will always rely on great defense as well. In 14 games for Tampa Bay in 2018, he had six sacks and 28 tackles.

If he joined this defense he would be put in a position to do even better than that. There would be other players for opponents to worry about, leaving him more opportunity. In his 123 games with Tampa Bay, he has 54 sacks and 296 total tackles.

This would be a signing which would catapult Chicago. The cost might be high, but if the Bears see 2019 as a season that they can truly make a run at the Super Bowl, then McCoy could come in and be the final piece to the puzzle.
