Chicago Bears: Game of Thrones NFC North player comparisons, Part II
Matthew Stafford – QB, Lions (Beric Dondarrion)
Beric Dondarrion was the Lord of Blackhaven. He created a group of resistance fighters known as the “Brotherhood Without Banners.” Dondarrion was mostly known for the fact that he seemed to not be able to die. When he died, he was brought back by the Lord of Light. Over and over again this happened as it seemed Beric Dondarrion had a purpose to live out.
At some point in their quest, the Brotherhood Without Banners moves on from protecting commoners and their homes to marching north to help take on the White Walkers and the Night King. After arriving at the Wall and meeting the Night’s Watch, Dondarrion and his resistance group go beyond the Wall to find proof that White Walkers are truly real.
If we look at Matthew Stafford and his career, one should easily understand the connection between the quarterback and Beric Dondarrion. Stafford has taken a beating year in and year out. Yet, no matter how many times he is battered and bruised, he seems to be able to get back up every time.
In fact, Stafford has been sacked on average 38 times per season over the last eight years. This does not even account for any of the hits he took that were not sacks. No matter what, the Lions’ quarterback comes back to life similarly to Dondarrion. Over the last eight years, Stafford has yet to miss a start. That is quite impressive if you ask me.
