Chicago Bulls: 5 players worth trading back for in 2019 NBA Draft
By Ryan Heckman
Point Guard Carsen Edwards, Purdue
Out of every player the Bulls have a realistic chance at nabbing, my favorite in the entire draft is Carsen Edwards out of Purdue. He grew on me as the season wore on, and as the Boilermakers made their run through the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
Edwards is one of those kids who stepped up throughout March Madness and tremendously improved his draft stock. He always seemed to come up big when it mattered most. Edwards isn’t afraid of the moment, and having a point guard like that would benefit the Bulls greatly.
Could Edwards come in right away and start? Most would say no, but I would say right back, “why not?” They’re amidst what should be the middle of a rebuild, and seeing what they had in a guy like Edwards would be well-worth the risk. At the very least, he’d develop into a strong backup who could contribute significant minutes off the bench.
In his junior season at Purdue, Edwards was “the man” so to speak. The team went as he carried them, thus his high shot total. He only shot 39 percent on the year, but has shot nearly 37 percent from three-point range over the course of his career. The pressure would be lifted, as he’d be surrounded by a no. 1 and no. 2 option, offensively.
The Bulls would likely be able to move back quite a bit to get Edwards, while piling up at least another pick or two.
