Center Jaxson Hayes, Texas

Last year’s draft was an interesting one when it came to big men. There were several to go within the top 10, featuring guys like Deandre Ayton, Marvin Bagley III, Jaren Jackson, Mo Bamba and the Bulls’ own Wendell Carter Jr.

This year, Jaxson Hayes out of Texas looks to be the type of prospect you would have found in Jackson and Bamba last year. Hayes is still very raw and needs some time to grow as an NBA player, but pairing him next to Carter as a long-term depth piece would be a strong option.

Hayes is a long, defensive-minded center who gets most people’s attention on that end of the court. But, he knows how to finish around the hoop, as well. Last year with the Longhorns, Hayes averaged an even 10.0 points and 5.0 boards while shooting nearly 73 percent. He did not attempt a three-pointer all year.

Hayes also averaged over two blocks per game and shot free throws at a respectable 74 percent. He only played one season at Texas, taking over for Bamba after he left last year, but Hayes would bolster the Bulls’ front court in a big way, should they trade back a few spots and select him.
