Career outlook

DWC: Do you have an ultimate goal with your art career, or is it mostly just a hobby?

MS: Without question, yes I have a goal; it’s to see the work on more trading cards, more posters, more prints… and to be as prolific as possible in releasing quality product alongside licensed vendors (I also think it’d be fun to tackle more key art on digital/print campaigns with NFL teams).

I want everyone who engages with a piece to feel like they’ve received 10x the value against the time and/or money they’ve invested in it.

DWC: What keeps you motivated to continue creating artwork like this?

MS: I love it. I absolutely love it. It’s so cliched and eye-rolling to hear, but I could genuinely work 14 hours a day, 7 days a week and not miss a beat. Thankfully I have a wife and three kids that help me maintain a more balanced lifestyle, but geez… I throughly enjoy the process.

DWC: What do you hope people take away most from your artwork?

MS: That’s a great question. I want them to enjoy it in the short and long game; from that initial moment they see a piece to 3 months later when they happen to glance at it again, I want that to be something that brings a smile to their face and still creates that feeling of, “Sheesh, that’s cool.”

DWC: Thanks for your time, Matthew! We love your artwork and wish you success in continuing to build your brand.
