Chicago Bears: Game of Thrones NFC North player comps (Part 1)
Matt Patricia – HC, Lions (Robert Baratheon)
Robert Baratheon is the King of the Seven Kingdoms when Game of Thrones kicks off. He took over after the uprising that took down Aerys Targaryen, also known as the “Mad King”. The uprising started because Robert’s betrothed, Lyanna Stark was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by Rhaegar Targaryen.
Robert Baratheon was a strong and skilled warrior in his youth, however after his beloved Lyanna Stark was killed, Robert felt little to no happiness in life. He drank and slept his way through life while married to Cersei Lannister, a woman he had no affection for whatsoever.
If you do not know what Robert Baratheon looks like, just google his name. Then tell me that Matt Patricia is not Robert’s comparable based on looks alone. Uncanny is it not? There is more to this comparable though. If we look at Matt’s coaching career, he was the New England Patriot’s Defensive Coordinator from 2012 to 2017. Imagine that like Robert’s youth as a dominant warrior.
Now, let us take a look at what he’s done as a Head Coach for the Lions. They had a 6-10 record and were not successful in really any statistical areas. Now, I am speculating here, but I would have to guess, just like Robert, Patricia struggles to find happiness in life. Maybe 2019 changes things for him, but I doubt it.
