Kenny Golladay – WR, Lions (Ser Davos Seaworth)

Ser Davos Seaworth was a smuggler who used to smuggle goods from the free cities into the Seven Kingdoms. He was born in Flea Bottom. Flea Bottom is exactly how it sounds. Known as one of the poorest parts of Kings Landing, many will do anything, including smuggling, to earn their keep. Davos was drawn into becoming a sailor in order to escape his poor upbringing.

Despite being a smuggler, Davos has a strong moral compass and deep compassion to those he believes in. During Robert Baratheon’s rebellion, Davos became allies with Stannis Baratheon by smuggling in food for Stannis and his men. This allowed Stannis and his army to survive and Stannis bestowed Davos with a knighthood. Davos is humble though and does not view himself as a knight.

How might this compare to Kenny Golladay? As one of my favorite players in the NFL, it pains me to see him play for the Detroit Lions. Golladay played for Northern Illinois University. This is my wife’s alma mater and a big part of my life too as we lived on campus for three years. I know, what does this have to do with anything?

Well, if you ever went to NIU, you would know this school is similar to Flea Bottom in that it is like the slums in comparison to bigger universities. The Huskies have a solid football program over the last 10 years, but to succeed in the NFL after playing at NIU says a great deal about a player. The path to success from smaller schools is typically harder than the path of a D1 recruit.

Golladay has put in the work and has proven to be a top target in the Lions offense. They have enough faith in him as their leading wide receiver that they traded away Golden Tate in the process. Like Davos, Golladay worked his way up from little to nothing and is now a mainstay character among his peers.

Also, if Marvin Jones is Stannis, it only makes sense for Golladay to be Davos. The elder Baratheon (Jones) is a great friend and mentor to Davos (Golladay). Am I reaching here? I think not.
