Chicago Bears: Assessing 2019 NFL Rookie of the Year odds
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears drafted their new feature back in David Montgomery. How do his Rookie of the Year odds stack up against his peers?
Now that the dust has settled a bit following the 2019 NFL Draft, it’s time for fans, analysts and experts to begin making their far-to-early predictions. When it comes to the Chicago Bears, there aren’t a whole lot of enormous storylines regarding the 2019 draft class.
The only real big one has to be their selection of former Iowa State running back David Montgomery. It was a fantastic pick if you ask me, and storyline is more around the fact that the Bears have a new lead back, immediately after trading Jordan Howard to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Montgomery should come in and take the bulk of the carries right away, but Tarik Cohen and Mike Davis wil be featured on a game-by-game basis. Even seventh-round pick Kerrith Whyte may be sprinkled in here and there.
When it’s all said and done, though, Montgomery was Ryan Pace’s man. He traded up to get Montgomery, and knows Matt Nagy will use him heavily.
Looking at the rest of the class, it’s clear there are some rookies who will come in and make immediate impacts on their respective franchise. As they typically do following every year’s draft, Vegas releases their odds on Rookie of the Year favorites. This year, the list is pretty intriguing.
Before even looking into the initial odds (released on May 1, 2019), I figured Montgomery had to be up towards the top. It may surprise some fans to know exactly where he was placed among the favorites, though. For any football fan, the draft is an exciting time and looking forward is all we can do. Let’s take a look at Vegas’ initial odds on the top 20 favorites for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
