Chicago White Sox: 3 potential trades for Marcus Stroman
The Chicago White Sox are just two games under .500 at the beginning of May. With a dire need for pitching, could the White Sox target Toronto Blue Jays ace Marcus Stroman?
While two games under .500 isn’t too impressive, I think we can all agree that the Chicago White Sox are doing much better than expected in the early part of the 2019 season.
However, the injury and inconsistency bug has begun to hit the White Sox and they are in dire need of pitching.
Carlos Rodon was recently placed on the disabeled list with a left elbow injury, putting his status for the remainder of the season in serious doubt. Rodon entered the season as the White Sox ace, and while he has not performed to that level, he would leave a gaping hole in the White Sox rotation.
In a press conference, White Sox general manager Rick Hahn hinted that the White Sox could be looking for outside sources of pitching. With news breaking that the Toronto Blue Jays are searching for trade partners for three of their star players, the White Sox could have a legitimate match in the Blue Jays as trade partners.
One of the Blue Jays three stars, in particular, Marcus Stroman, would be an excellent fit on the South Side. Stroman is just 1-4 on the season, but has pitched very well, and is under team control through the 2021 season. Given his track record and season performance, Stroman is a very appealing trade target for the White Sox, who certainly doesn’t lack the capital to make a run at Stroman.
In all reality, the only thing that could be in the way of the White Sox going after Stroman is their willingness to win. Stroman would be the type of aquisition that a winning team would make, but given the White Sox solid start, now might just be the right time to make a run.
However, bringing in a player of Stroman’s caliber won’t be cheap. Here are three trade packages that could entice the Blue Jays into parting with Stroman.
