The Bears signed John Baron II as an undrafted free agent. The San Diego State kicker will report to Bears Rookie Camp. He will look to be a guy who takes the job from basically nobody. Nobody has the lead for the job as we stand, so Baron has as good of a chance as anyone.
The Bears are going to give everyone as good of a chance as possible. They do not want a repeat of last season. Baron II could be one of those guys for Chicago. He was a three-year starting kicker for the Aztecs and now looks to have an NFL career.
In those seasons as the Aztec kicker, he hit 83.3 percent of his field goals and 98.5 percent of his extra points. Those are good numbers for a college player and he will be given a chance to become the guy for the Bears. They will a lot of competition, so he will need to have a good showing, as will every other kicker.
Baron is 5’11” and 190 pounds. He had a total of 285 points in those three seasons as the San Diego State Kicker. He might be just what the Bears need to fix the issue at the position. He will certainly have the chance.
