Chicago Bears Draft: Get to know the team’s offensive UDFAs
By Ryan Sikes
Another undrafted free agent tight end for the Chicago Bears. The former Alabama State quarterback was productive for Georgia Southern.
If the Chicago Bears cannot find solid depth at the tight end position after signing three undrafted free agents, well then consider me stumped. Ellis Richardson started out his collegiate career playing quarterback for Alabama State, but ultimately transferred because the coaching staff utilized a rotating quarterback system.
He switched positions and played his final two seasons as a tight end at Georgia Southern. He accumulated just 266 receiving yards on 19 receptions for three touchdowns. Richardson is fast for a tight end, running a 40-yard dash time of 4.50 seconds which would have been tied for tops at the NFL Scouting Combine with Iowa’s Noah Fant.
I am not sure he will end up making the Bears roster, but it never hurts to bring in as many tight ends and give them all a look. Much like the kicker situation, a diamond in the rough could potentially emerge from the group.
