The safer pick at safety is likely Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. Gardner-Johnson had a fantastic season for the Gators last year. He played in 13 games where he picked off four passes, including two for touchdowns. He also had three sacks and 71 combined tackles.

After taking a risk on the trade for David Montgomery, Gardner-Johnson would be the perfect option for Ryan Pace in Round 4. I am not sure he drops low enough for the Bears to be able to take him, but if he is there, the Bears should run to the podium.

Gardner-Johnson is a good all-around player. He can play the run well but has the ability to pick off multiple passes a season. The fact that he is still around this late is very surprising. Not only should he be drafted early on Day 3, but he should also have been taken in Round 3.

Like Hooker, Pagano should have no problem utilizing Gardner-Johnson’s skillset to his advantage. He has decent size, is a good tackler and should be able to slot into a role rather quickly. He is also versatile enough to play as safety or slide over into the slot as a third corner. He will need to be coached up though as he tends to lean on his athletic ability too often instead of his instincts.
