Chicago Blackhawks: Patrick Kane nominated for the Ted Lindsay Award
The Chicago Blackhawks superstar had yet another amazing season, and he is being rewarded for his efforts with a Ted Lindsay nomination.
The Chicago Blackhawks had a rough year as a whole team, but their superstar right wing Patrick Kane certainly did not. He had his personal best year, actually. He had 44 goals and 66 assists for 110 points. It was an incredible year for number 88. He put the Blackhawks on his back for certain parts of the season, especially down the stretch. It was more proof that Kane is one of the best wingers ever and it has been a treat to have him in Chicago.
The Blackhawks fell short of the postseason but Kane certainly did his best. His efforts did not go unnoticed. He was nominated for the Ted Lindsay Award on Thursday. The award goes to the player who was voted on by his peers as the most outstanding player in the league for the regular season. He was nominated with Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers. This award is meaningful because it is the players association who votes on it so it is something to be taken seriously and with pride.
Most of the time the Hart Trophy (NHL MVP) goes to the guy who was the best player and also got into the playoffs, the Ted Lindsay usually goes to the guy who was simply the best player. Kane certainly was that. He was third in the league in scoring, only trailing the two men he was nominated for this award with.
Kane has already won this trophy before when he took it home in 2016. He also took home the Art Ross (scoring title) and the Hart Trophy that season. It is always hard to predict who of the nominees will actually win the award because it usually goes to the guy who was simply the best player, not the most valuable. All three nominees have an argument.
Find out if Kane wins the award by tuning into the 2019 NHL Awards on Wednesday, June 19th. It will take place at the T-Moble Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The home of the Vegas Golden Knights. If Kane wins it, it will be just another piece of hardware for him to add to his already incredible career. What a player.
