Safety First

Alright, I do not think safety should be first on Ryan Pace’s draft board, but it is an important position for the Bears. Haha Clinton-Dix is on a one-year contract. The Bears need to find his replacement either this year or next. A few guys could fit that mold. I am not as high on who is left, but there is one name I’d love and a couple I’d be happy with taking a chance on.

I have been a big proponent of Amani Hooker this offseason. This guy is a playmaker. He tracks the ball nicely and knows how to take it out of the air. He can get caught freelancing too much at times, but I think Chuck Pagano would love to have this kid in his backfield.

Nasir Adderley is probably the hotter name on draft boards. This also means Pace would likely have to trade up for him. Adderly has good size and is versatile. Remember, versatility is something Ryan Pace loves to target in the draft. Therefore, this could be his move-up target if Pace goes that route. Adderly is also a ball hawk who would look good in Pagano’s defense.

If neither of these players is available in Round 3 or Round 4, then the move for Pace should be to wait on safety depending on who they select with their first pick. Mike Edwards is an interesting option. He could be a steal late in this draft.

However, waiting and selecting Deionte Thompson even later could make more sense for the Bears. Thompson struggled to pull in interceptions, but with some NFL coaching, the Alabama prospect should easily improve in this area.

Ugo Amadi, mentioned earlier with the corners, would be the last guy Pace should consider. He fits that versatility that Pace covets. Amadi has the ability to be a safety or convert to a nickel corner. Corner is likely a better fit in the NFL for Amadi though based on his 5’9″ stature.
