Chicago Bears 2019 NFL Draft Primer: Everything you need to know

21. The Ideal Draft Approach
The Bears first pick will dictate everything. Essentially, with this pick, the Bears could decide to go with best player available, whether it is at safety or running back. However, if the Bears see a player who they believe can be a future contributor at a position that isn’t necessarily a need right now, then pulling trigger could be an option.
If the bears first pick is safety, then the next pick should be running back. This allows the team to have two starters in place come 2020. While some of the Bears selections may not necessarily be the flashiest picks, the players they select could be more about scheme fit on both offense and defense, rather than bringing in the guy with the most talent.
WIth the third-round likely to be where the Bears address running back or safety, then the fourth and fifth-rounds should be where the team addresses depth at edge rusher and offensive line. These are critical positions for the Bears as the team will have decisions to make at both positions in the 2020 and 2021 offseasons.
It’s hard to predict exactly what the Bears are going to do, solely due to the fact that they’ve got one of the most complete rosters in the NFL. Unlike the last four NFL Drafts where the team has filled a considerable need each year, this year, the Bears need to focus on adding depth to the roster.
