10. Amani Hooker, Safety, Iowa
A ballhawk who has six interceptions over a two-year period, Amani Hooker is a smart instinctive player who thrives in cover two. He’s also shown the ability to be an effective defender when playing zone coverage. Hooker isn’t the rangiest safety on the field, he didn’t give up many big plays while at Iowa.
One thing to love about Hooker is his physicality and competitive toughness. He’s never afraid to get physical when it comes to stopping ball carriers. In other words, his toughness and physicality are what should make him an attractive fit for the Bears.
Another thing that could make Hooker an attractive fit for the Bears is his versatility. With Chuck Pagano now leading the defense, Hooker can play a variety of roles
Considering Chuck Pagano has a history of being someone who is a wizard when it comes to developing defensive backs, Hooker is the type of player that can sit and learn in 2019 before taking over in 2020. At this point, Hooker should be available for the Bears to draft in the third or fourth-round.
Overall, Hooker is a prospect who has the chance to be a solid starter in the NFL or just be a special teams player. Due to qualities like his football IQ and his instincts, as well as the ability of Chuck Pagano to develop defensive backs, Hooker has a chance to be a solid starter for the Bears.
