With the 2019 NFL Draft just days away, the Chicago Bears could be in the market to select a tight end on day two. What can we expect from some of the Bears’ top targets?

Heading into this week’s 2019 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears do not have many holes.

For the Bears, this draft should be about enhancing an already strong core of players on both offense and defense, not necessarily drafting a future star.

However, this should not eliminate any chance of the Bears landing a future star, especially considering general manager Ryan Pace’s track record on days two and three. The Bears won’t make their first selection until the third round, but rounds three through five are where Pace has flourished throughout his career.

Amongst the target positions on Friday and Saturday are running back, safety, kicker, and tight end. The last position of the four, tight end, is the position of the four in which the Bears are currently the strongest on paper.

Unfortunately, despite having solid production from the tight end position last season, injuries and inconsistency prevented the position from being a real difference-maker. A big hit at tight end in this year’s draft could certainly change that.

Luckily for the Bears, this draft is very heavy on tight end depth. Considering where the Bears are picking, they won’t get a bonafide superstar, but there are surely some diamonds in the rough at the tight end position that are worth taking a chance on.

If there has been one thing that Pace has excelled in during his tenure with the Bears, it has been finding key contributors from anywhere. Group of five, FCS, division two, you name it. Pace knows a good player when he sees one.

Historically, good tight ends have not necessarily always been from power teams and conferences. This draft is no different. While you might not have heard of every player or school on this list, the talent is undeniable. Here’s what to expect from five of the Bears’ potential tight end prospects in this year’s draft.
