Tight End Jace Sternberger, Texas A&M

The tight end position is a funny one right now, amongst Bears fans. Some are dead-set on Adam Shaheen becoming a stud, while others are unconvinced. Most fans like what Trey Burton brings to the table, but not everyone is thrilled with the money he’s being paid.

Beyond those two, the Bears’ depth isn’t strong enough. Ben Braunecker is a pure pass catcher, but could use a bit more size.

If Jace Sternberger is there at no. 87, the Bears have to scoop him up. He would be, by far, the best available tight end at that point. By the end of the third round, you will already have seen Noah Fant, T.J. Hockenson and Irv Smith‘s names come off the board. Aside from those three, Sternberger may just be the next-best.

What separates Sternberger from the other guys ranked near him is his ability to run routes like a receiver and break away from coverage. He’s real quick-footed and possesses decent overall speed. But, he’s a true receiving threat.

Sternberger has also been a strong blocker throughout college, and has experience lining up in a variety of positions — that sounds like a perfect fit for this offense.
