Chicago Bears: Round 3 targets in 2019 NFL Draft
By Ryan Heckman
Barring a trade, the excitement doesn’t start for the Chicago Bears until the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
It’s draft week, people. For the Chicago Bears, it’s yet another opportunity to add to the already-stellar roster that’s been put in place by general manager Ryan Pace and his staff. On one hand, it may be a little disappointing not to have a pick within the first two rounds. But on the other — boy, it sure is nice to have Khalil Mack and Anthony Miller.
I think most fans are OK with the Bears not having a pick until later in the third round (no. 87 overall), and the excitement over Thursday night is in no way diminished. The 2019 NFL Draft is going to be a blast; Bears fans will just have to wait until Friday to see a new face brought onto the roster.
This year’s draft class is full of talent. Like every year, now is about the time you see several outlets reporting that there are a plethora of first round “locks.” It gets a bit comical at times, because after you count them all up, between all outlets, you’ve come up with a number much greater than 32.
While it is comical in one aspect, it also inspires hope, because players with a first round grade will fall. They have to. It’s simple math!
The real fun begins, though, when that second round wraps up and the Bears inch closer to that no. 87 selection (barring a trade, of course). Which players will still be available at that point? Who will continue to fall?
Those are tough questions, but I think I’ve come up with a final list of players whom the Bears should target with that third round pick. I would venture to guess one or two of the following players will be on the board at no. 87.
