Safety Zedrick Woods, Ole Miss

If you watched this year’s NFL Combine, you likely came away impressed with the talent coming out of Ole Miss. Obviously, wide receivers D.K. Metcalf and A.J. Brown make headlines more so than their Rebel teammates. But, safety Zedrick Woods ran the fastest 40-yard dash out of anyone at the 2019 Combine — a blazing 4.29 seconds.

They say speed kills, but to be an NFL stud, you need much more than that. Woods’ speed is a solid starting point, and his toughness makes him even easier to like.

Woods will need to improve his overall movement and get to the point where he looks more fluid on the field. He tends to appear tight a lot of the times and must open up a little more. But, his positives are tough to ignore.

Woods has matched up against all kinds of guys at the safety position, and will not shy away from laying a hit on a big tight end. He brings the wood every time he lays into somebody, and that alone will put him on the opposition’s radar every snap.

Over four seasons, he only tallied six interceptions. That’s an area he’ll need to improve as well — ball skills. But, as a potentially undrafted free agent, Woods can join my camp any day.
