Chicago Bears: 5 intriguing matchups in the Bears’ schedule
By Ryan Sikes
The Chicago Bears will see Drew Brees and the high flying Saints offense in 2019. It should be a great test for the Bears defense.
In Week 7, the Chicago Bears will be hosting Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints at Soldier Field. The two teams have not met since the Saints beat the Bears 31-15 on December 15, 2014, on a cold rainy Monday night at Soldier Field. Brees is now 40 years old, but he shows no signs of slowing down. Last season, he threw for nearly 4,000 yards to go along with 32 touchdowns and just five interceptions. He also had the highest completion percentage of his career at 74.4 percent.
It should be a terrific test for the Bears defense, as they figure to be ranked among the best again in 2019. They will have to game plan for guys like Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, Tre’Quan Smith, and newcomer Jared Cook. The Saints also added a couple of former Vikings guys that the Bears should be very familiar with in Marcus Sherels and Latavius Murray.
If the Bears come into this game with a solid record, it will be a good measuring stick as the first five games are not as strong as the back half of the schedule. Last year it was the Rams game when fans started to really believe that Bears team could do something special. This season, it could be the Saints game.
This match-up has the potential makings of a shoot-out as Drew Brees knows how to exploit good defenses. However, he has just a career record of 71-61 on the road. The Bears hope that mediocre record continues.
