Round 5, Pick 162

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. OT. Ohio State. Isaiah Prince. 5. player. 57

In an earlier mock, I had Isaiah Prince going to the Bears and I came back to him because I think his value in the fifth round is undeniable. That’s where he’s projected to go by many outlets at the moment, and I think this is a position being vastly overlooked by Bears fans.

Chicago would be doing themselves a huge favor by planning ahead up front. Whether it’s finding someone (like McGovern) who could eventually take over for Kyle Long, should injuries continue to be an issue, or drafting for depth, like with Prince, the offensive line should be addressed.

Prince has a lot of traits that would make him a strong candidate to eventually start at right tackle as a pro. The Bears, of course, just extended Bobby Massie and Charles Leno is still here for a couple of years also. But, they don’t have a locked-and-loaded backup at the position. Sure, Bradley Sowell can play tackle and Rashaad Coward has looked promising.

But, snagging a guy like Prince who has played at a big time program, and played well at the position, would be beneficial.

Prince has great size at 6-foot-6, 305 pounds and offers a quick first couple of steps — one of the most important factors in becoming a solid offensive tackle. One of the areas he could improve is getting to the second level quicker and with better technique. The Bears run a lot of motion and movement within their offense and Prince could use some polish when it comes to moving upfield.
