Round 4, Pick 126

EDGE. Alabama. Christian Miller. 4. 57. Pick Analysis. player. Scouting Report

The Bears aren’t desperate for an edge rusher. Having two guys in Khalil Mack and Leonard Floyd, already, make that a pretty strong position group for the team. Pace decided to bring back Aaron Lynch as well, giving them a third rusher behind those two.

But, when you look at the depth behind Lynch, who has struggled with injuries his entire career, there isn’t much. Isaiah Irving flashed a little bit last preseason. Kylie Fitts may not be with the team very long, as his adjustment hasn’t happened as quickly as it should — not to mention, injuries are an issue for him also.

In the fourth round, Christian Miller would present too good of value to pass up. It is kind of funny that, at this stage, the Bears would be looking for more of a rotational pass rusher if anything, and that’s exactly what Miller was in college.

At Alabama, he was never truly a full-time starter. In fact, he was the team’s situational pass rusher. He came in for one reason and one reason only: Go get the quarterback.

Miller found himself in back fields more often than not and actually saw solid production as a rotational guy (11.0 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks in 2018). The lack of wear on his body and having high character to accept his role are also factors in why I’d love him on the Bears.
